Poe and Mathews are an unlikely duo. Edgar Allan Poe is an author, well known for his contribution to the horror genre. Cornelius Mathews is also a writer…but he is not well known for anything. These two literary mammoths find themselves shipwrecked on a deserted island and they realize the only thing they have in common is getting on each others nerves. Will they survive? Will Poe ever see the brighter side of life? Will you stay long enough to see the ending? Find out by catching this fast, fun, and absurd clownesque show.

Great show! Smart, silly, fun. You don’t need to know the works of Poe and Mathews to enjoy the show.
This show was quite a delight. The pair of Poe and Mattews together creates a hilarious combination of uncertainty and frustration with one another. As these two characters run through the 5 stages of grief, their fondness of one another is explored through desertion on an island. Great show, hope to see Brian and Emily in future shows here at the Rogue Festival!
Charming. That’s the word I was using to describe “Poe and Mathews” to friends when I recommended the show. More than once their face lit up and they said, “That’s just what [insert name of their friend] said!”.
It’s true. This show is certainly charming: great fun, great over-the-top facial expressions. It’s like the coolest cartoon you’ve ever seen, but it’s live!
Eighties pop music, UFO’s, and deserted desert islands bring this unlikely duo together: Edgar Alan Poe and aspiring American author, Cornelius Mathews. History reminds us that Mathews was indeed a fan of Poe’s work and was actually one of countless writers linked to help the famous poet write his most memorable work, “The Raven”. Now erase history. Erase the critics. Erase all those with their literary stake. Poe and Mathews: a Mis Adventure in the Middle of Nowhere is what happens when disciplined, Dell Arte actors create a memorable performance through seamless physical comedy, quick-witted dialogue, and impeccable timing. What I admire most about P and M is the undeniable discipline that goes into creating such wonderful work. Go see Poe and Mathews: A Misadeventure in the Middle of Nowhere for outloud laughs seen through the magic of actors/comedians in love with their craft.
Hey Folks! Thanks for the great words. We’re so happy you guys came out to see our show and had a good time.
Genericcreation: You can definitely count on us being back at the Rogue Festival. It’s a great town with great audiences, and the festival is so much fun!
And once again thank you so much for the kind words. It’s an amazing feeling when audiences appreciate and enjoy the work you create, especially after we’ve had such a great time creating it
Charming… Adorable… Hilarious… So far my favorite show this year. I’m convincing everyone I can to come see it.
Also, these two are skilled professionals. A couple technical surprises and they didn’t miss a beat. They stayed in character and worked the technical errors into the show. Very funny. Superb timing. I’ll be going again with my whole band and anyone else I can drag along.
I am happy to say that at every other show I have attended so far (6
) Poe and Mathews is the fist one that is mentioned when the audience is asked for recommendations. i thoroughly agreed. It was the first show for me for this year’s Rogue and a really great beginning.
Cannot say much more than what others have already said. This is a don’t miss show. Go by yourself, go with friends, just go! You cannot possibly regret it unless you are a complete curmudgeon (and even then you may find yourself smiling). Great acting, great writing, just all around fun. The minutes flew by.
